There are plenty of opportunities to get your voice heard at Sussex Coast College Hastings. Student representatives are trained and supported by the College. They gain experience, confidence and skills as well as enhanced career prospects. We are looking for two kinds of Student Rep.
Learner Voice Representatives
At Sussex Coast College Hastings we listen and respond to learner feedback. Anyone has the opportunity to become a Learner Voice Representative.
What do Learner Voice Reps do?
Learner Voice Reps attend focus groups where they can express their views in order to improve the college. They are needed at two levels:
- Course Level: Contribute to improving your course for you and your peers by attending termly Course Review Meetings and Divisional Focus Groups.
- Divisional Level: Improve the learning experience for all students by attending termly Senior Management Focus Groups.
How are they chosen?
Your personal tutor will be looking for Learner Voice Representatives. Anyone can volunteer for elections.
Student Union Representatives
Run by students for students, the union independently and proactively brings about change and improvement to the Learners’ experience at College. Student Governors are mentored by the Clerk to the Corporation and will receive training on taking up their post.
What do Student Union Reps do?
- Promote and coordinate student societies, sporting and social activities
- Student Governors will attend College Corporation meetings and Senior Management Team Focus Groups to raise awareness off issues affecting learners at Sussex Coast College Hastings
- Represent students when communicating with College authorities and other organisations
- Roles include
- Student Governor
- Treasurer Officer
- Entertainments Officer
- Sports Officer
- Clubs & Societies Officer
- LGBT Officer (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender)
- Part Time Officer
- Mature Officer
- International Officer
How are they chosen?
Student Union Officer elections are held in October 2009 for the academic year 2009/10 and Officers hold their post until the end of the academic year. For the academic year 2010/11 elections will be held in March 2010.
