The Olympics beckon for student Michael Davies
Michael Davies, Sport student, tells us how he was chosen from 300 applicants by Coca Cola to complete a work placement at the 2012 Olympics.
I volunteer for the Street Games Project, a national charity who partner with Coca Cola. I heard about this opportunity through the Project Co-ordinator and knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of the biggest sporting event in the world.
After I sent the application form, I was invited for a phone interview and then to a training and selection weekend at Warwick University. It must have gone well because Coca Cola chose me and 34 others out of the final 65. I think I was successful because I have shown that I am hard working and experienced - I have completed around 300 hours of volunteering.
I will receive several days of training to spend four weeks as a Venue Operator at one of the Olympic venues. My job will involve stocking up the Coca Cola fridges, helping with deliveries and dealing with merchandise. I will be part of the Olympic opening ceremony and may get the chance to meet some athletes. All my food and accommodation costs will be paid for by Coca Cola.
