Students from Sussex Coast College Hastings are celebrating after achieving outstanding results in their A levels.
Anxious students came into the College throughout the morning on Thursday 19th August, to open the all-important white envelope. Mark Wardle, Head of Academy 6, the College' s A level division, was waiting to congratulate them. 'We had a good idea that they had done well,' said Mark, 'and it was good to see almost all of our students leave the building with smiles on their faces'.
One happy student was Hayley Mitchell, 18, who got an A* in graphics, a B in ICT and a B in psychology and will be going on to study Primary Education at University of Chichester . ‘I’m just really pleased – I didn’t do so well last year, so I worked extra hard this year and it’s paid off’.
Kelly Williams, 18, will be going on to university Canterbury. She said of her Grade A in Psychology, B in Biology and B in English Lit ‘I’m happy…very happy. I’m proud.’
In total, the A level students achieved a 99% pass rate with 47% achieving grades A*, A or B.

The results cement Academy 6, the College’s, as the top-performing destination for A levels in the Hastings and Rother Area, with the widest range of subjects.
Tim O’Brien, Executive Director for Young Learners at the College, said; ‘Our students and teachers have worked extremely hard for this success and we are very happy for them. These results means they can move forward into the future they deserve.’
Earlier this year, a survey by ALPs (Advanced Level Performance System) placed Sussex Coast College in the top 5% of UK colleges for value added at A level. ‘We have achieved this by employing the best teachers and strategies from schools and 6th form colleges across the UK' says Tim. 'We are now on the road towards our goal of being not only the biggest choice, but also the first choice A level destination in Hastings & Rother’.
The College has seen a massive increase in applications for A level courses over recent months and enrolments for the new academic year start on Wednesday 26 August.
