Citizenship Students with Amber Rudd, MP and Otto Haas, their Tutor
Citizenship students from Sussex Coast College Hastings had an exclusive Q&A with local MP Amber Rudd on Friday 9th July.  Students from a wide range of countries, including Gambia, Malaysia, India and Iraq are studying on a course to learn about British society and culture in preparation for applying for visa’s to live and work in the UK.  The Students greeted the Conservative MP with a traditional African song, before launching into string of questions about education, crime and health and life as an MP.
Jane Chin from Malaysia said ‘The MP was very friendly and she answered the questions really clearly and in absolute detail.  The day was fun and meaningful.’  Jiri Potucek, from the Czech Republic said ‘The meeting was very interesting and useful for everyone who was there’.
At the end of a lively and informative session, the students were delighted to receive an invitation from Amber to visit the Houses of Parliament next term

Otto Haas, who runs the course said, ‘It was a pleasure to welcome Amber Rudd MP to the new Station Plaza campus.  The citizenship students gained so much from their meeting with her and really appreciated the opportunity to question her directly about issues they have explored on their course’.

Amber, who was elected in May, said, ‘It was a great pleasure to meet this group of enthusiastic and articulate students.  I enjoyed the variety of questions and appreciated the real interest that they all showed in our democratic process.’
