Sam , a Year 5 Pupil at Redlake School, gets a taste of Further Education at Primary College

On a recent visit to Sussex Coast College Hastings, pupils from two local primary schools discovered that it's never too early to start thinking about your future.

Over 60 Year Five’s from Robsack Wood and Red Lake schools visited the college’s Station Plaza campus, where they enjoyed a guided tour of the building, watched explosive experiments in a physics lab, cooked pizza in the training kitchens and took part in workshops in the learning resource centre.
The aim of the event was for the pupils to get a taste of college life and to explore ideas about some of the things they could do and be in the future.
‘We were delighted by the children's enthusiasm’, said Pru Blackwell, Director of Schools Partnerships at the college. ‘We hope that Primary College helps them create a vision of a rewarding future in which they fulfil their potential and find jobs and careers that play to their strengths’.
It won’t be until 2016 that these youngsters are old enough to attend college, but it was clear that the event inspired them to consider further education as a possibility.  Shayla, aged 10, said ‘College is good because you are working, a bit like a job, as well as learning’.  Lauren, 9, said ‘I like Maths and, if I choose it at college, I could do more of it and harder sums!’
