This is an engagement programme for young people aged between 14 and 19 who would be classed as NEET (not in employment, education or training) and who, because of this, would not generally be using our normal referral agencies. The programme is based on a 12 week period and maps out, at day one, what the ultimate aim of the young person is. Over the space of the programme support is put in place to help them achieve this or to help them take the next available steps.

The curriculum on offer includes Literacy, Numeracy, ICT and Communication Skills. And the course includes the use of outside specialist speakers, individualised aims, vocational tasters and out of centre activities.

Opt-In learners may be able to qualify for an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) depending on their own personal circumstances or household income, which need to be means tested.

Opt-In is a roll-on, roll-off programme and operates 50 weeks of the year.
