Sports & Public Services Department
The wave of enthusiasm for sport sparked by the London 2012 Olympics offers massive employment opportunities. You could ride that wave coaching a host of activities to people of all ages, or as a personal trainer, or supervising a busy gym. With the sea on our doorstep, opportunities in water sports are a profitable local extra, too.
The Sports Department has links with over 60 employers, including Bannatyne’s and Freedom Leisure, offering Sports learners the best opportunities for work placements and apprenticeships. Our on-site gym is leading edge, with USB ports on all our FitLinxx cardiovascular and resistance equipment – plus the College provides access to water sports and competes passionately in football, basketball, rugby, netball and hockey.
The Public Services – including the armed forces, emergency services, immigration and customs and excise – are renowned for highly competitive recruitment, however they offer an unrivalled variety of lifelong careers with clear progression paths and relative job security. Our Public Services courses provide a good insight into what’s available, utilising strong links with the army, police and courts, whilst giving you a platform to strengthen team skills and excel on a personal level, both through sports and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
