About this course
The course provides a qualification for those who enjoy sports, fitness and personal training. The sports, fitness and leisure industry has many opportunities for fully qualified staff. This nationally recognised qualification is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and personal attributes needed for careers in this expanding industry. Students will have access to a wide range of learning resource facilities and laboratories, as well as the University of Brighton’s sports facilities at Eastbourne and Sussex Coast College’s facilities in Hastings.

Entry requirements
Students must be 18 years or over. UCAS tariff: 120 points, from a minimum of one 6-unit qualification. Level 3 Key Skills will count towards the tariff score. General Studies will count towards the tariff score. International Baccalaureate: 24 points. QAA-approved access course: Access course acceptable.
GCSE (minimum grade C): At least 5 subjects, including English language and mathematics or a science. For non-native speakers of English IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing.
Areas of study
The course includes a variety of theory and practical sessions including lectures, discussions, group work, seminars and visiting speakers. Assessment methods include essays, case studies, presentations, practical performance, projects, reports and exams.
Career and progression opportunities
The course opens up opportunities for employment at higher supervisory and lower management levels in sports and leisure centres, health and fitness clubs, in sports development, sports coaching and as personal trainers.
Students who successfully complete the Foundation Degree can progress to a one-year top-up to gain a full Honours Degree with the University of Brighton.
