Higher Diploma Sport and Active Leisure

PDF

Course code: 7794
Course type: Full time
Duration: 1 year
Level: 2
Site: Station Plaza
Start date: September 2011

The sport and leisure industry is experiencing an explosion of interest thanks to the London 2012 Olympic Games, with direct opportunities in training, coaching and stewarding as well as spin-off enthusiasm for sports across the country. You could become a coach, fitness instructor, youth worker, run outdoor expeditions or be involved in sports events, including stewarding and security.

The Diplomas in Sport and Active Leisure have been designed in consultation with employers. As a result these industry-recognised qualifications will maximise your readiness for the workplace, developing the blend of knowledge, team-work and practical skills you’ll need.

The Higher Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure is a Level 2 course which aims to increase your grasp of how active leisure businesses are run as well as understanding the science behind sport and how to assess and respond to customers’ fitness needs. The course also ensures you have the right English, Maths and ICT skills for the workplace.

Employers will value the level of experience you gain on the course – as well as putting learning into practice in our leading edge gym and at Horntye Sports Complex, you’ll benefit from links with over 60 sports and leisure businesses to get an up-close understanding of the sector through visits, observations, interviews, guest speakers and work shadowing.

What do I need?

Grade C in English/Maths and a mixture of grade Ds and Es at GCSE or relevant Level 1 qualification.

Where does it lead?

Into a junior role in the sport and active leisure industry or further study at Level 3.
