For students who love reading and enjoy exploring texts in depth then this is a golden opportunity to gather with like minds to share ideas and interpretations. The study of A level English Literature will equip you with the tools to deepen your understanding and refine your analytical skills through the exploration of a wide range of texts. You will focus on how the writer uses literary and narrative techniques to construct meaning, and consider the importance of form, structure and language as well as points of view, themes and ideas. You will study works from different time periods and contrasting genres, making detailed analyses, practising the ‘close-reading’ techniques required for academic research, constructing written arguments, and improving your own command of the English language.

How will I be assessed?

Regular assessment and feedback in class and of homework. Coursework counts for 40% of the grade; final exam 60%.

You will explore the historical and cultural context of a wide range of texts, from 1600 to the present.
