Economics is the study of  the resources available to us and how and why they are distributed. On this course you will study the idea of markets both in terms of finance and commodities. Lessons will also centre around the debate over the consumption of goods and services and the benefits they provide in society. Other areas that you will study include the management of the economy and government decions on how to allocate resources: should benefits be slashed or increased? Should the government increase borrowing to fund education and health, or should the private sector provide these services? You will also study core concepts of inflation, unemployment, economic growth and balance of payments, and how governments seek to control these variables through policy insturments.
