VRQ2 Food Preparation and Food Services

PDF

Course code: 3803
Course type: Full time
Duration: 1 year
Level: 2
Site: Station Plaza
Start date: September 2012

Due to a lack of professional caterers in the UK, there couldn’t be a better time to consider a career in this sector. The VRQ2 in Food Preparation & Food Services helps you build on the training and enthusiasm you will already have gained, upgrading your practical skills and providing training in additional areas such as budgeting, menu preparation and how the industry operates. You will also develop your knowledge of customer service, food safety, and healthy and safety. Learning is a hands-on process – thanks to our impressive kitchens and popular on-site restaurant and bar – and includes the opportunity to gain work placements. Our learners regularly enter – and are successful in – national hospitality and catering competitions.

What do I need?

Grade C in English and Maths and a mixture of grade Ds and Es or relevant Level 1 qualification.

How will I be assessed?

Through practical tasks observed in the college restaurant, synoptic tests, assignments, presentations and question papers on topics within the qualification.

What will I learn?

Practical skills in food preparation techniques; food and beverage service including barista skills, cocktails and events; plus industry essentials such as a Food Hygiene Certificate. Teamwork is essential.
