Interest in spas has exploded in the UK, and as a result there is huge demand for qualified spa therapists. Beauty Therapy (Spa Therapy) VRQ Level 3 builds on the NVQ2 in Beauty Therapy by adding the skills and knowledge to operate in a commercial spa environment. You will operate and monitor spa facilities, and provide treatments such as aromatherapy, stone therapy, body wrapping, dry flotation, hydrotherapy, massage and an additional unit of electrical facial. The course equips you for business too, covering health and safety requirements, product promotion and maximising the financial effectiveness of a spa business. A work placement is an essential feature of the course, giving you valuable insight into the commercial world of spa therapy as well as being an important addition to your CV.

What do I need?

Five GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths, a mixture of GCSE grades E to G or an appropriate level 2 qualification. Satisfactory completion of your existing studies or NVQ2/VRQ2 in Beauty Therapy .

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments are carried out on paying clients in our commercial workshops. Essential knowledge is covered through project research, case studies and written assessments.

What will I learn?

You will learn specialised massage, stone therapy, Indian head massage, body wrapping, aromatherapy with pre-blended oils, safe use of sauna, steam and floatation treatments. Electrical facial and anatomy and physiology are covered in depth.

What are my career opportunities?

Working as a massage beauty therapist in spas, salons, cruise liners, professional trade representative, self-employed or mobile therapist.

Further Study?

Progression to HND level 4 Hair & Beauty Management, specialising in spa management.

Are there any extra costs?

Uniform (approx. £60) and kit (approx. £100) are required for this course. Course fees and registration may be applicable for students over 19. Plus £40 for trips & visits and opportunities to visit & have Spa days for 2 days which would cost an extra £150 approx.
