Foundation Learning Department
Foundation Learning provides a positive gateway to learning for those who are at Level 1 and below, who may have additional needs or previously have been reluctant to engage with learning.
Foundation Learning provides the skills to move into further learning, independent living and employability. The atmosphere is understanding and informal, with a focus on the development of personal and social skills, as well as vocational interests and functional skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT.
Intensive ongoing assessments highlight barriers which staff can help learners overcome. Programmes are individualised and flexible, enabling each learner to progress at an appropriate pace and with an appropriate level of support. Learners will be able to take part in a range of vocational taster programmes so they can develop their life choices.
Foundation Learning kicks off with an induction programme which includes trips and recreational activities alongside tutorials, allowing staff to establish the most suitable pathway for each learner.
