PDF

Course code: TBC
Course type: Full time
Duration: Variable
Level: Entry Level
Site: Station Plaza
Start date: September 2012

This is an opportunity to improve employability skills in order to progress to further learning or employment/ training. Foundation learning delivers personalised learning and provides the opportunity to 'taste' different vocational pathways in Motor Vehicle, Child Care, Sport, Construction, Hair& Beauty and Catering as well as the development of personal and social skills. Learners are encouraged to move between pathways and are able to progress on to Level 1 programmes during the autumn and early spring terms, if appropriate. Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT are developed and learners can achieve a qualification in these areas. Learners are encouraged to take 'ownership' of their learning and will work with tutors on a personalised programme with a high level of pastoral support to help them to move on to success.

What do I need?

A willingness to fulfill obligations regarding attendance and behaviour and a readiness to learn.

How will I be assessed?

Learners work towards units that they can 'bank' on the way to a NONC (National Open College Network) qualification at Award, Certificate or Diploma A Level. These units can be taken with them on to the Foundation Level 1 programme.

What will I learn?

Units include developing learners' personal, social and employability skills as well as identifying areas that need to be developed in Maths, English and ICT.

What are my career opportunities?

This programme is the first stage to success and further learning. The length of course will be designed to meet your needs to progress at College or into work.

Further Study?

Learners can take the units they have aachieved on to the level 1 vocational programmes at the College. The programme will assist with understanding the different vocational options on offer to enable learners to make the right choice.

Are there any extra costs?

No tuition costs under age 19, but specialist PPE equipment may be needed for specific options.
