About this Course
HND’s are an established and well-respected Level 5 qualification. This programme provides a stand-alone qualification from which to establish a professional career and a route into the second year of a full engineering degree. HNDs provide a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the Engineering sector and their national recognition by employers allows direct progression to employment. It prepares learners for a range of technical and management careers in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
Learners will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life and thereby enabling learners to make an immediate contribution to employment at the appropriate professional level.

Entry Requirements
Entry is open to students of 18 years and over. Students who do not satisfy the entry criteria may be eligible by virtue of their maturity, motivation and relevant experience. National Certificate or Diploma in Engineering or related subject providing the necessary analytical skills such as GNVQ Advanced or A/AS Levels in science, engineering, physics and maths or related subjects. For speakers of English as a second language: IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing.

Areas of Study
The course develops the learners’ knowledge and use of mathematics, engineering principles, and modern design and manufacturing techniques. Subjects are taught in a contextual way to make them directly relevant to the needs of the workplace.
Employment and Progression Opportunities
The HND provides both a qualification contributing to career development in engineering and opportunities for further study. The Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Engineering have been developed with career progression and recognition by professional bodies in mind. Progression to the Final year of the Degrees in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering is available for successful HND students; with bridging studies if necessary, at the University of Brighton or other institutions.
