PDF

Course code: 1733
Course type: Full time
Duration: 1 year
Level: 2
Site: Ore Valley
Start date: September 2012

If you are looking for a stimulating career and you are logical, creative and a good problem-solver, it’s worth considering a career as an electrician. Electricians are always in demand in a variety of environments – from households to major construction projects, from small commercial premises to large industrial installations, working on installation, design, testing and inspection, maintenance, transport networks, electricity distribution systems and much more. This course concentrates on the essential principles of electrical engineering and offers supplementary practical elements, giving you an additional qualification in the form of a level 2 NVQ. You will be given the chance to gain skills and qualifications without the need for work-based evidence, while boosting your maths and science to the level required to progress to Level 3.

What do I need?

Grade C in English and Maths and a mixture of grade Ds and Es or relevant Level 1 qualification.

How will I be assessed?

You will undertake some practical assignments and multiple-choice exams. Completion of a portfolio of evidence will be completed for the NVQ element.

What will I learn?

Practical skills supported by electrical and engineering theory to obtain a good level of understanding and ability.

What are my career opportunities?

This course could support a pursuit into Apprenticeship, leading to a career as a contracting electrician, electrical design engineer, panel builder, armed forces electrical engineer, electro-mechanical engineer for manufacturing, internal data and fibre installer, or any one of many more options.

Further Study?

Successful completion of this program can enable you to progress on to the level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology, leading on to an HNC in Engineering.

Are there any extra costs?

A study book,  steel-toecapped boots and coveralls.
