Cert in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology

PDF

Course code: 3813
Course type: Full time
Duration: 1 year
Level: 2
Site: Ore Valley
Start date: September 2011

This course replaces the old ‘NVQ in Performing Engineering Operations’ and introduces a new element to the program.

If you are looking for a stimulating career and you’re intelligent, logical, creative and a good problem-solver, it’s worth considering a career as an electrician. Electricians are in demand, working in a variety of environments from individual households to major construction projects, from small commercial premises to large industrial installations, involving projects including installation, design, testing & inspection, maintenance, transport & highway networks and electricity distribution systems to name but a few.

This course is ideal if your Maths and Science GCSE grades are not sufficient to get you onto the Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology or the Level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology, but you would still like to pursue a career in the electrical installation industry. The program offers you the chance to gain initial electrical-based skills and qualifications without the need for work-based evidence, whilst boosting your Maths and Science to the required level to allow progression.

Learning will take place in both classroom and workshop. You’ll be undertaking practical tasks as well as theory to obtain a good level of understanding and practical ability. Working safely, efficiently and effectively, using and communicating technical information, wiring, testing & maintenance of electrical equipment and circuits, forming and assembling electrical cable enclosure and support systems, engineering environment awareness, techniques & principles are all covered in this course.

What do I need?

A minimum of four grade Ds at GCSE including Maths and Science or relevant Level 1 qualification.

Where does it lead?

Successful completion of this program can enable you to progress on to the Full-time Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, the Level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology, or an Apprenticeship.
