If you’re a young person considering a career in construction and you want to explore a range of craft and building skills before progressing to an apprenticeship or level 2 programme. This hands-on course would suit you well. The Introductory Certificate in Basic Construction Skills will steer you through a series of projects of increasing difficulty, developing your skills and knowledge in crafts including woodwork, painting and decorating, plumbing, and brickwork. We will also ensure you have the right standard of English, Maths and ICT to help you in the workplace. This course takes advantage of our fantastic new site facilities at Ore Valley.

 

What do I need?

A mixture of GSCEs grades E to G. Satisfactory completion of your existing studies.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed primarily against practical tasks with some written work to support these activities.

What will I learn?

Basic skills in bricklaying, carpentry, painting and decorating and plumbing, plus literacy, numeracy and study skills.

What are my career opportunities?

This course prepares students to progress to A level 2 industry-recognised course in the various construction trades.
