A level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce will open the door to many careers in the childcare sector, ranging from play work and child-minding to teaching and nursing. The course will prepare you to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity with children (aged 0-19years) in a variety of settings. The course combines theory and work-based experience, and the fact that you will be learning in a childcare setting will give you the best possible start to a career path in childcare and education.

What do I need?

Five GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths or an appropriate level 2 qualification. Satisfactory completion of your existing studies.

How will I be assessed?

You will be internally assessed by a range of methods including direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments and tasks.

What will I learn?

The professional skills necessary for working with children in a variety of job roles and settings, such as child development and education, and how to support and keep children safe.

What are my career opportunities?

With this qualification you could work as a pre-school worker, or a practitioner in a children’s centre, day nursery, nursery school or a reception classes in a primary school. You could also choose to be a registered childminder or nanny.
