The course aims to provide learners with a basic understanding of the principles of double entry in both manual and computerised contexts. It includes preparing and processing bookkeeping documents, recording credit transactions, making and receiving payments, recording receipts and payments and maintaining petty cash records.

Progression from this course is to the Award in Bookkeeping Skills (Computerised) and then to Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounting Skills. It is advisable to book for the three courses at the same time to avoid disappointment.
