About this course

This course is a Brighton University qualification. The course conforms to the new standards for teaching qualifications and qualifies applicants to work in teaching in the post compulsory education/lifelong learning sector, in a range of settings.

Syllabus

Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
This is a modular course which includes the Theories and Principles of Education, Planning and Enabling Learning and Professional Development. In order to successfully complete this qualification, trainees must have at least 75 hours of teaching during the course. This course is suitable for associate teachers who have a limited teaching role.

Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)
This is the second year of the programme and follows on from CTLLS. It is a modular programme, which further develops

Knowledge and skills

The focus is on professional development, curriculum design and professional research. Trainees must have teaching hours to complete this qualification. This qualification is for all post compulsory teachers who need to obtain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Sector (QTLS)

Areas of study

The programme offers the following routes: A part-time route for Associate Teachers already employed in the sector that runs part time over one year (CTLLS). A part-time route that runs over two years and is aimed at those already employed in the sector but as yet unqualified (DTLLS). The two routes build upon subject knowledge, experience and understanding and enable trainees to meet the professional standards for supporting learning in the lifelong learning sector, leading to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).

Entry Requirements

Entry is open to students of 18 years and over. Individual offers may vary.

PGCE (part time)
Qualifications in numeracy and literacy at Level 2. A first degree in specialist teaching area. Current teaching within the post compulsory sector, or in an equivalent setting.

Cert Ed (part time)
Ability to work at HE level. Numeracy and literacy at Level 2. Currently teaching within the post compulsory sector, or in an equivalent setting.

For speakers of English as a second language; IELTS 6.5 or a cert. TESOL qualification.

Other:
Accreditation of Prior Learning (APEL) onto year 2 of the programme is available for those who have completed a City & Guilds Stage 1 and 2 or a secondary education PGCE.
