A course full of engagement and challenge, the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is the jewel in the crown of arts courses at SCCH, with a fantastic track record of progression to leading universities and art schools. You will investigate drawing, painting, printmaking, theory, photography, conceptual thinking, graphics, film-making, illustration, architectural and interior design, sculpture and contextual studies, and will create work that references the past but recognises contemporary practice. You will be encouraged to think beyond conventional parameters, and to explore all activities with an open mind and a high degree of criticality. Regular tutorials will help your personal development, with good advice on career routes and the support to get you there.

What do I need?

Four GCSEs at grades A* - C plus one A level, or a National Diploma in an art-related subject, a
portfolio wil be required at interview. (Mature students may be offered a place on the strength of a portfolio of work and relevant experience.)

How will I be assessed?

There will be regular, focused and individualised tutorials and assessments which will enable you to make progress.

What will I learn?

Students will work practically and theoretically, exploring materials and ideas.

What are my career opportunities?

Most students progress to degree courses on a broad range of programmes inc. architecture, graphics, photography, fine art, fashion, textiles, games design, illustration etc. Beyond their degree the vibrant world of the creative industries awaits with a myriad of opportunities.

University degree courses or a Foundation Degree at SCCH, validated by the University of Brighton.
NB A portfolio of recent artwork is required at interview for this course. You should be aged 18 or over on 1 September 2011.
