If you dream of a career in fashion, the BTEC Extended Diploma in Design (Fashion and Clothing) is the place to start. This exceptional course enables you to explore a wide range of fashion concepts and skills while developing your own portfolio, to be exhibited in our spectacular end-of-year catwalk show. Over the course of two years you will study vital subject areas including fashion illustration, life drawing, pattern cutting, computer studies, garment construction, printed textiles, historical and contextual studies, retail and research work. The first year introduces specialist techniques and gives a broad introduction to the subject, while the second year involves projects of increasing complexity and specialisation. We have practising designers and makers teaching all our course projects, giving you a background in technical skills whether you go into employment, on to a Foundation Degree or into Higher Education.

What do I need?

Four GCSE s at grade C or above including English and/or Maths or an appropriate level 2 qualification. A portfolio of recent artwork is also required for interview. Satisfactory completion of your existing studies.

How will I be assessed?

Your work will be assessed continuously throughout the course, covering 18 units of study.

What will I learn?

You will learn all the skills necessary to progress further into the world of Fashion Design.

What are my career opportunities?

This course can lead to a career in the fashion industry, from garment construction, pattern cutting through to fashion design.

Further Study?

Successful completion of  your studies could lead you to progression onto our FdA (Foundation Degree) Fashion & Clothing course, or alternative instituions of higher education.

There will be additional costs for materials on this course throughout your studies, such as fabric, sketchbooks etc.
