A thorough introduction to the subject. Candidates will produce practical and critical/contextual work in one or more areas including portraiture, landscape photography, still-life photography, documentary photography, photo-journalism, experimental imagery, photographic installation, video, television and film. You will learn the principles of analogue and digital photography, including editing, image manipulation, printing and an outline of photographic history and culture, with further study in an area of your choice. You will gain skills in developing your ideas, experimenting with materials, techniques and processes, recording in visual or other forms, and presenting a personal, informed and meaningful response.

Ongoing assessment in all subject areas.

What will I learn?

The principles of analogue and digital photography – editing, image manipulation, printing – plus an outline of photographic history and culture, and further study in an area of your choice.

An understanding of the subject is highly relevant to a wide range of roles in art, design, media and communications,
in addition to careers in commercial, social and fine art photography.
