If you love the medium and want to delve into what it is about film that captivates us – but challenges us at the same time as well as the affect on our our emotions -how and why – then this is the course for you. A level Film Studies will allow you to observe and analyse genres of film , gaining an appreciation of the way film provokes a response in the audience and raises significant issues. You will look at the relationship between film production and the spectator and how recent developments in the industry have influenced cinema’s popularity.
The course also looks at the influence of the contexts affecting films at the time they were produced i.e historical , social, cultural, with reference particularly to British cinema. You will complete an indepth study such as the development of the horror film from its earliest influences through to the controversial nature of today’s more visceral film. looking at the macro features of representation, genre and narrative. In addition to improving your skills in micro- anlaysis and critical analysis, you will have the chance to develop your own storyboard ideas and in the second year you will have the opportunity to make a short film.

You will receive regular feedback on your progress through one to ones with your teacher and assessment feedback.What will I learn?
Lessons will take the form of screenings, teacher presentation, class discussion and through self-directed study studying the way film provokes a response and raises issues, and the relationship between production and audience.
