Level 2

As an Apprentice, you could work for a dealership and focus on a particular manufacturer, or work for an independent garage that deals with many different makes of vehicles. In both, you’ll choose your area of specialisation, whether that’s motorcycles, cars, heavy vehicles or vehicle electrical systems. You’ll be working in a service technician type role, carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs, as well as identifying and reporting faults.

Vehicle repair is challenging, hands-on work – every vehicle will present a new problem to solve. You’ll also need good communication skills in order to explain everything to the customer. But you’ll feel satisfi ed when the job’s done and that car is back on the road.

What will I gain?
A nationally recognised qualifi cation in your chosen career. (To include NVQ Level 2, Technical Cert/Diploma, Key Skills @ Level 1 to include ICT and ERR).

Who is it for?
Ideal for those wanting to work in a service technician type role carrying out routine maintenance work, perhaps with a dealership or independent garage, with Light Vehicles. What will I study? You will choose an area of specialism i.e. light, heavy or auto electrical.

How is work assessed?
You will attend college one day a week and your work will be assessed through observation on your worksite and through building a portfolio of evidence.

What can it lead to?
This could lead you onto a level 3 Apprenticeship.

How do I get onto the course?
Interview required for admission onto the course, plus confi rmation of full-time employment. (PPE gear will be required for this course).
