A level Dance is a contemporary dance course which will help you build your practical skills in both dance technique and choreography. The course also explores anatomy and physiology and dance analysis, providing you with a solid understanding of the theory and practice of contemporary dance.

The course will require you to take part in physically active practical sessions and solo dance performances. Assessment is based on practical coursework, performances and written examinations.

Students could go on to study full time professional dance training at the London School of Contemporary Dance, the Laban Centre, Northern School of Contemporary Dance and a range of universities.

What do I need?

Five GCSEs at grade A-C including Maths, English and Dance or Grade 5 in private dance school exams or equivalent.You must demonstrate a real ability and interest in contemporary dance.

Where does it lead?

Further study in dance or performing arts at dance or drama school or university.

* Learners studying at Academy 6 take four AS levels in the first year of study, each of which is equivalent to half an A level. Learners then go on to study three subjects through to A2 but high performing learners are encouraged to study all four during their second year.
