About SCCH
Construction is one of the largest sectors of the UK economy, employing over two million people. Our construction division provides training and qualifications in all areas of this diverse industry, from architecture and surveying to carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing and decorating.
Facilities and features
The new state-of-the-art vocational centre at Ore Valley will provide well-equipped, spacious workshop areas in an environment that closely reflects that of a construction site, where students can carry out practical tasks to industry standards. The atrium houses 2 two-storey buildings, one reflecting traditional building crafts and the other encapsulating contemporary techniques that will take the industry into the future.
Progression routes
Once qualified; there are many career opportunities across a wealth of different sectors. The division has a long history of success: Students have progressed to university and become Chartered Builders or Engineers, or have left college as qualified plumbers, bricklayers and decorators, getting jobs with local companies or running their own businesses. Many employers sponsor their employees to attend courses at the college.
Success stories
Kevin Watts studied at the college as an apprentice, earning a living whilst gaining experience of the construction industry. This led him into management with the UK’s largest privately owned construction company. As Project Leader for Laing O’Rourke, he has just completed working on the Station Plaza Construction Project
